President Donald Trump is facing another setback after a federal judge overturned his decision to remove Roger Rogoff, a court-appointed U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington. The judge ruled that the dismissal was unlawful and ordered Rogoff reinstated, while the Justice Department said it plans to appeal the decision. The ruling adds another legal challenge for the administration as questions continue over the limits of presidential authority.
The development comes as Trump also faces difficult economic headlines ahead of the November midterm elections. The United States added just 29,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate increased to 4.2%, according to recently reported Labor Department figures. The weak jobs growth has added to concerns about the economy at a politically sensitive moment, particularly as energy prices and the cost of living remain major issues for many Americans.
With the midterm elections approaching, Trump is continuing to campaign across the country while dealing with legal disputes, economic concerns and criticism surrounding several administration policies. His recent appearances have focused heavily on rallying Republican voters and defending his record, but the combination of new court challenges and disappointing employment figures ensures that the coming weeks will receive intense attention. More developments could emerge quickly as the administration responds to the latest setbacks and the election campaign moves into its final stretch.
